Staff News:

Congratulations to Richard and Heather on the birth of their son, Luke Skywalker.  Luke was born on 4-12-08. He was 20 inches long and 8 pounds 2 ounces.  He is a happy healthy baby with ebullient parents.  May the force be with you Luke!

A budding Vet in our Midst:

Congratulations to Julie, our bright eyed, red haired technician/receptionist will be joining the other 7 ex-employees who have or will become veterinarians. Julie will start her training at UC Davis in the fall.  We appreciate her hard work over the past 3 years and will miss her great attitude.

Current Topics:

New Rattlesnake Vaccine available:  Rattlesnakes pose a potentially fatal threat to our pets who roam our desert hillsides.  Recently, a new vaccine has become available which will protect a pet who has been bitten from the serve effects of the rattlesnake toxin.   Two immunizations given at 2-3 week intervals are required the first year and annual boosters are needed to maintain immunity.  If your pet has potential exposure to rattlesnakes, you should consider this vaccine.

Summer Safety Tips:
Summer is a great time to enjoy your pets.  Click on the  following topics to  help ensure a safe season for you and your pets:

Heat Stress:

Drowning:
Even though many pets love to swim, they can get exhausted and drown, especially in river's lakes and the ocean.  We recommend flotation devices for all pets who are going boating or swimming in rivers, lakes or the ocean.

External Parasitism:
Fleas and ticks are most active in the summer and their numbers can explode under these conditions.  Placing your pets on Frontline Plus will help prevent flea and tick infestation and the problems associated with them.

Poisoning:
Every summer we have an increased number of accidental poisonings due to snail bait, rodent bait, ant bait and herbicides.  Please do not use any of these products in areas where your pet's may gain access to them.  Keep all poisons in locked cabinets for the safety of your pets and children
